Melanin in Motion is a BIPOC movement “Movement”
Our singular goal is to connect Black, Indigenous, and POC youth, adults, and families to active living and personal development in nature, outdoors, and adventure-based experiences. We believe that Black bodies in motion are the ultimate expression of FREEDOM. We create incentive, excitement, and positive emotional connections to the outdoors by removing barriers to participation through progressive nature-based experiences. Melanin in Motion adventures are led by experienced, nurturing BIPOC practitioners with the ultimate goal of building community and connecting people to the joy, fun, and healing of being in nature.

I Board!
I Board! is a woman and girl lead community program to teach Girls to Snowboard at Theodore Wirth Park lead program to teach Girls to Snowboard at Theodore Wirth Park. Girls Ages 8- 12 can learn to snowboard taught by Community members supported by professionals in the community confines of Theodore Wirth Park. The equipment and coaching are provided. We will have extra clothing but please wear snow pants, warm jackets, and mittens. Also wear socks above the ankle. Helmets will be provided.
Weekend Snowboard Lessons
Each weekend, accessible, affordable lessons are offered at Theodore Wirth Park. Lasting 90 minutes, lessons will be offered in small groups of six participants. Youth 8 – 14 all genders.

Families In Motion Fridays at Trollhaugen Ski Resort
Melanin Motion partners with Trollhaugen Ski Resort. Trollhaugen is a 50-60 minute drive from the Twin Cities and is an excellent environment for learning or growing as a winter sports enthusiast. Participants of all (5+) ages receive excellent instruction. Come with family and friends to grow as a community.

Monday Night Nordic (XC) at Theodore Wirth
On Monday evenings, MIM offers introductory and progressive Nordic(XC) Ski lessons for the BIPOC community. Mondays at The Trailhead are our longest-running effort to connect BlPOC and Northside families to the benefit and joy of winter activity.
